SES Students participated in BCCN Winter School

"Ethics of Neuroscience and AI" 2021

The 10th Winter School "Ethics of Neuroscience and AI" has taken place on March 8-12, 2021. It was organized by the BCCN Berlin/ICCN, the Berlin School of Mind and Brain, and the Excellence Cluster "Science of Intelligence". The event was tailored for MSc and PhD students, but covered a range of topics of potential interest to other researchers, reflecting on the ethical and societal consequences of modern neuroscience. Theoretical foundations, as well as practical and ethical aspects had been addressed in courses through virtual format and this year the program had a focus on artificial intelligence.

Four SES students participated in the BCCN winter school and successfully completed the course after assessment. They listened to the keynote speeches and courses delivered by the teaching team led by Professors John-Dylan Haynes and Thomas Schmidt through the ZOOM software, and participated in the course through online discussions, group assignments and presentations. Not only have students benefited from professional knowledge from lectures, but also acquired deeper understanding of brain science and artificial intelligence. The four said the program broadened their international horizon and laid a foundation for future scientific research.

The School of Engineering Science (SES), founded within Wuhan National Laboratory for Optoelectronics (WNLO) to transform the engineering education curriculum, is one of the first four pilot international demonstration schools established in China. SES is devoted to prepare highly motivated students with multidisciplinary training needed for the 21st century workforce. It has attracted first-rate domestic and international faculty with outstanding scientific research credentials to collaborate on developing a curriculum that gives the students the knowledge to meet the technical challenges they will face in the future.

The orientation of SES is to cultivate students with comprehensive thinking, scientific and engineering achievements, a multidisciplinary perspective and cross-cultural communication ability. At SES, we boast international and open exchange platforms where students can enjoy joint training programs, exchange programs, global internship programs, oversea summer schools, short-term international exchange programs, graduation projects at top-tier universities around the globe, as well as an educational program with more than 20 international courses.
